Munnar: Misty Hilltops, Rare Flora & Endangered Nilgiri Tahr

Published by princejohn at 7:44 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Munnar in central Kerala attracts tourists from within India. This hill station is mainly known for the purple flowers of ‘Neelakurinji’ (Strobilanthes kunthiana), which blooms once in 12 years. Another important attraction is the protected mountain antelope – the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragus hylocrious) in the wilderness. Endless spreads of tea estates, lakes, thunderous waterfalls, and an excitingly lax life are the main attractions.

The places you can’t afford to miss once you are at Munnar are Mattupetty, Rajamala, Eravikulam National Park, Echo Point, Anamudi and Marayoor sandal forests.

Munnar honeymoon packages are among the hottest of all Kerala travel products – among domestic tourists. Foreign tourists are rare sight in the misty mountains of Munnar.
